In 2017, Society EVP Policy Michelle Johnston had to step away from the work she loved to take on the fight of her life.

Diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, Johnston began an equally aggressive treatment regimen. She says, “I truly know that I wouldn’t have survived if it wasn’t for all the love, support, prayers and messages of inspiration that I received from those around me – near and far.”

“I hate running but I owe my life to cancer research,” said Johnston. “I’ve been training since January and I hope all of my family and friends will support me by contributing what they can to the cure.”Johnston also says that without decades of cancer research her outcome may not have been so great. So after speaking as a cancer survivor at last year’s Run for the Cure in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, this year Johnston registered her own team to participate in the 5k run to raise money to support the next big breakthrough in cancer research.

Johnston set a goal of raising $1,000 but has raised almost triple to date. To make your donation go to http://www.supportcbcf.com/site/TR?px=5499283&fr_id=2717&pg=personal.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who contributes,” said Johnston.
