The Inergi Local, along with co-workers at the Atrium, helped Society member Rey Dunca get closer to his $60,000 fundraising goal to support Syrian refugees resettling in Toronto.

Dunca and his east end Toronto neighbours intend to sponsor a family of five as well as one LGBT individual.

The Inergi Local held four 50-50 draws that raised a total of $1,456.75 and a Bake Sale that raised an additional $1,301.15.

“What a fun day that was,” said Inergi Local Vice President Dianne Mowat. “People got to show their incredible baking skills and many got to escape their desks to sample some yummy baked goods and meet Rey.”

With $158.75 in donations, the September 30 fundraiser took in a total of $2,916.65.

“Thanks to all of Inergi at the Atrium that helped Rey in his quest to sponsor these people to a better life in Canada,” concluded Mowat.

Society members can donate to Dunca’s efforts by writing a cheque to Eastminster United Church with “RSVP” (the name abbreviation for his neighbourhood’s group) in the memo line and mail it to Rey Dunca at Hydro One, 185 Clegg Rd., Markham, L6G 1B7. Donors will receive a tax receipt. For more information contact Rey Dunca at reydunca@yahoo.com.

The Society and the union representing its staff have made significant contributions to refugee settlement in the past year, with The Society donating $10,000 and the Society Staff Union contributing $20,000.
